Barossa Gin goes for gold at Royal Adelaide Show

Some Barossa businesses have managed to take home a swag of medals at the Royal Adelaide Show produce competitions.

Seppeltsfield Road Distillers were recognised at the 2019 Beer, Cider & Spirit Awards – placing highly with their Barossa Dry, Savoury Allsorts, House Gin and gold medal-winning 2019 Barossa Shiraz Gin.

As a business with only 12 months under their belt, Distiller and Founder of Seppeltsfield Road Distillers Nicole Durdin said they have found competitions to be a great way to showcase their range and benchmark themselves across the globe.

“Receiving a Gold Medal for any of our products is such a great honour, and we accept these accolades with pride, but winning awards has never been the goal for us,” Ms Durdin said.

“We have always set out to be different, deciding that if we were going to produce gin, we would always do it our way.

“Our gin is the product of patience and care throughout the distillation process, resulting in a range of complex, but bright and fresh products. And of course, the highest quality ingredients, including Barossa sourced Pink Peppercorn, Lavender, and Citrus, Grape Spirit… and in the case of our Shiraz Gin, Barossa Shiraz Grapes from Evan at Stonewell Cottages and Vineyards.”

Another relative newcomer to the region, Barossa Valley Chocolate Company also found success at the Royal Adelaide Show – taking home five gold medals.

The gold medal-winning chocolates entered were Honey and Macadamia, Caramelised Coconut, Cocoa Nib and Hazelnut, and a Cranberry and Pistachio block. Their signature Apple Cider Praline earned the highest overall score.

Head Chocolatier Amy Sajinovic said they were extremely proud of the chocolates presented at the Royal Adelaide Show.

“It has been a team effort creating these chocolates in the Barossa Valley and now they are really a part of South Australian history,” she said.

Also in the dairy section, Barossa Valley Cheese Company and Barossa Valley Ice Cream Company both were awarded medals, winning three and five respectively.

Barossa Valley Brewing also received five medals across their range.
